Julian Hanna was born in Vancouver in 1972. He is currently a researcher and lecturer in English at the University of Lisbon. Before moving to Portugal in 2008, he taught modern literature at the University of British Columbia. Manifestos first caught his interest in 1995 during an unconventional summer course in Italian Futurism (taught by a Romanian Neoist) at McGill University in Montreal. He went on to write his PhD thesis on British and Irish manifestos at the University of Glasgow, and has published articles and reviews on modernist subjects in the Journal of Modern Literature, Modernism/Modernity, the European Journal of English Studies, and elsewhere. A guide to modernism, Key Concepts in Modernist Literature, was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2009, and a book on manifestos is long overdue.
